Getting Started with Aged Care Easy Steps for Your Care Journey
Start by recognising what kind of help you need. If you find daily tasks like cleaning, meal prep, or personal care becoming harder, it may be time to get some support. We are here to assist with activities that make your life more comfortable and safe.
Once you have figured out your needs, registering with My Aged Care is the next step. Call 1800 200 422 or visit www.myagedcare.gov.au. They’ll guide you through the process and arrange an assessment to determine the level of care that’s right for you.
After registering, the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) will visit your home to evaluate your care needs. They will assign you a care level based on your best interests.
- Assessment Timing: Most assessments are done within 10 days.
- Allocation: Depending on your situation, you could receive your allocated care package within 6 to 12 months.
Once your care package is allocated, find the right care provider. We encourage you to look into Approved Providers in your area while waiting for your care to be finalised.
- Why is this important?: By comparing services, fees, and hours, you can find a provider that fits your needs.
- Meeting with Providers: Many providers offer consultations to discuss your care and create a personal plan.
After you receive your Care Package Allocation Letter, you will have 56 days to choose your provider and sign a care agreement. Once signed:
- Services: Your aged care services typically start within 14 days.
- Flexibility: You can change providers anytime if your needs or preferences change.
